Review of chapter "Trials, Part 1" from calikocat
Review:
You winged it? Trust me hun, no one noticed. Like you said there's not much info on how their system works. I certainly didn't notice anything, it flowed well and made perfect sense. ^^

I thought it was done very well. Snape's class was the best though. His comments to Neville were funny. The class must have spent most of the time mouth gaping.

Review of chapter "Trials, Part 1" from Marcel
Review:
"... everything else was confiscated, to be redistributed amongst their surviving victims and the government's coffers."

Interesting, isn't it, how the government - even though clearly at least an accomplice to the crimes - managed to nevertheless profit from them :)

Anyway, great story (as was the first one), looking forward to what you come up with next! (As for the update speed, I am flabbergasted.)
Comments from author:
In all fairness, it wasn't the entire government that was screwy. There were a lot of people (like Amelia) who were just trying to do their jobs and getting shafted by the people who WERE on the take. Saying or trying to do something about it would have seen them in a raftload of trouble (just look at the campaign Fudge launched against Dumbledore and Harry in canon) and wouldn't have solved a damn thing, not with the Minister on the take and a crapload of Death Eaters lining his pockets.

Now that's all gone, the government desperately needs money to (at the very least) get a fully staffed and fully trained Auror department, not to mention the damage done in other departments. Fixing the mess takes money. It's not about profit (most of the money will be going to the victims or their families) so much as it is using the money to fix what got broke.

I think the trials went rather nicely.
The changes in classes, teachers, behaviour in general - just wonderful and interesting to read. Go Snape! :D
Congrats! I liked this chapter.

I wonder if they have parole or is life just that?
Comments from author:
Given the fact these are the same people that thought feeding criminals to a dementor, which ripped out their souls but left the body alive ... I'm thinking probably not, at this point. They might develop the concept later, though.

You have handled the first batch of trials quite well, can't wait to see the second half and see how Fudge and Dumbledork try to get out of this mess (I hope they don't get out of it).

I just love how the new Snape freaked everyone out.

Keep up the good work.
Comments from author:
Fudge won't be much trouble. He about went catatonic in canon when he realized Voldie was back for realz, and he's more or less done the same here.

Dumbledore ... that one's going to be sticky.

Review:
The first round of trials was handled perfectly, although I almost expected Lucius to give Narcissa nod of approval at ratting him out. After all, it saved both her and his heir. Lucius of all people could appreciate covering your own rear. I'd like to see what Narcissa and Severus have to say to one another at some point, too.

Clem in Hogwarts will be hilarious. For all that's he's a demon, Clem has more of a "muggle" personality than any other Scooby, including Xander. I can't wait for pureblood heads to implode at a demon that acts more like a muggle than muggles do. Although Lorne would have been great too.

I can't wait to head Fudge's defense for his gross incompetence and collusion with Voldemort's forces. Anyone else (except Dumbledore) would see the writing on the wall and throw themselves on the mercy of the court the way Nott did. I don't think Fudge is that bright.

I love that everyone is looking sideways at Snape now that he no longer has to play the big, bad Death Eater spy. It's going to turn everyone in his classes into mini-Moodys, constantly paranoid.

Nice to see Lucius got the veil. Imperious? Seriously? You're right. Who was going to fall for that a second time? I felt just a LITTLE bad for Nott, Sr. Just a little, because his original beliefs were apparently what got him interested in Voldie's cause in the first place.

I'm highly looking forward to Fudge's trial too. How someone as wishy-washy as he is could ever be elected minister is beyond me. However, I suppose there were more purebloods than Lucius who were willing to line Cornelius' pockets with gold to get political favors, so they would have supported his selection. Gah! Hate politics.

I do wonder if Albus is still living in denial, or if he has FINALLY accepted that Riddle's gone for good. Honestly, I'm hoping for denial so someone can smack him down again. It's one of my favorite parts of any Albus-bashing fic I read.

I look forward to seeing how Hogwarts moves forward, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Xander's guest lecturer demon is Clem with a bag of Cheetos in hand, er claw. Spike would be fun, too. Xander trying to keep his tales of the Scourge of Europe from completely scarring the students would be interesting to say the least.

Keep up the great work!
Comments from author:
Snape is honestly going to end up having more fun freaking all the kids the hell out than he ever got out of bashing their egos to dust. There was no way in heck Lucius was going to get anything BUT the Veil, especially once Narcissa told on him. Highly satisfying to write, that bit. Albus is most definitely still in denial-land, so yes, there will be more head-smacks ahead.

And yep, the guest lecturer is Clem. He's pretty much the nicest demon the Scoobies know, aside from Lorne (and I haven't decided if he and the rest of the Angel crew survived the Black Thorne smashup yet).
