Review of chapter "Trials, Part 2" from AnFan
Review:
One thing that Xander might try to get implemented at Hogwarts is to make Muggle studies both up to date and mandatory. Of course in trying to get this approved a course in Wizarding culture and society that is also mandatory would be a good balance. I'm actually not a fan of making the course(s) mandatory, but that is the first thought that comes to mind. I guess that somehow making the Wizarding culture class available, and bringing the Muggle studies up to date would be a minimum. And they could bring attention to features of technology that would bring interest to the Muggle studies class by getting Willow or another Earth Witch to shield an entertainment system that could show not only entertainment movies, but also a lot of the shows and documentaries available on the many learning channels. Setting up classrooms with large screen TV's and DVD players would enable classes like the Astronomy and Creatures ones to have movies to supplement their regular material. Showing nature programs could even encourage some of the students or maybe even their parents into making shows for magical creatures available. I imagine Luna would be someone who would love to learn how Muggles study animals in their environment and to document them with film.

I'm also looking forward to how you address the Unspeakable's department. I can't even imagine how an oversight of any kind would be able to be put in place because of the nature of how that department has been handled in the past. I would imagine that the only thing they could really do would be to put in place some kind of system to work its way through the whole department in sections with rules for oversite that have been developed in the Muggle governments to handle secret research departments. Though, I'm not sure there are any good models to use.

You did a good job with the trials. The only thing that I would have mentioned if I'd read this before you posted chapter 4 would have been to say that it might have been a good option to have Dumbledore tried by the ICW. Then again, there isn't really any portion of the system that is similar to a trial by peers in the Wizarding World, so it would only have provided additional material to show that Madam Bones was trying to work out the best way to handle his trial.

I really look forward to reading new chapters.

Review:
My wife and I have talked about several of the implications of Dumbledore's policy of 'Give them a second chance', etc., and have come up with this: much like in Avatar:The Last Airbender, a conscious decision was made to avoid actual death and killing in a children's entertainment. Unfortunately for Ms. Rowling, her books traverse from 'young adult' to 'adult fantasy' in the seven years chronicled, and by doing so afforded her the opening for more real-world causality. That means real-world accountability as well, and frankly, Dumbledore ought to have been pilloried, drawn, and quartered for his crimes. But I see I'm too kindhearted; the absolute isolation and lack of worshipful populace is so much more appropriate.

Well done. Really, really.

JKR *really* didn't think things through, from the very beginning of the storyline, where Dumbledore was concerned. Ok, she didn't think things through period, because there's a rather unfortunate message (to whit, it's ok for kids to be horribly abused, and there's no point trying to get it to stop because no one's going to care) right from the first chapter of the first book.

And she didn't have to, you know, have Dumbles kill everyone off (though in Bella's case ... yeah. Death. She's WAY too nuts and WAY too dangerous to have been kept alive. Gah.). Just check arms, seize their coffers, have trials, and then toss everyone in jail. Easy peasy (ok, not really, but hey).

Regarding Dumbledore, I just sort of asked myself what would hurt him the worst, and this was it. Was rather theraputic, honestly.

Excellent chapter!

Knowing old Al, he's got something up his sleeve, so unless Willow put a magic dampening field around the cottage, he's going to find a way to get loose.

He just might kill Winky, if he's desperate enough.

Hopefully that won't happen.

Sad as like Fudge, Albus believed he was doing what was right no matter the facts. Blind belief. Sad and tragic. I feel more for the victims though who have suffered more.

Given how vindictive and over-protective Xander can be, I'm somewhat surprised he didn't put two slugs in the base of Dumbledore's skull, then put two more between his eyes, to make sure that he won't come back to haunt harry and the Wizarding World later.

Overall, a very good story, so far, and you've made your Snape at least a bit palatable to me, which is a major feat, given that I'd like to see him staked out over an anthill and honey smeared over his body while I pondered exactly how to punish him properly for everything he did to Harry and the rest of the student body at Hogwarts in canon. ;-)

And with any luck, the name of Albus Dumbledore will forever be associated with acts of blind arrogance, incredible stupidity, and sheer, unmitigated and wholly unwarranted ego...

Along with the memory of what his final judgement was...

And WHERE, pray tell, are all The Xan-Man Fanwomen that should be stalking Our Stalwart and Their Next ManToy?!?! C'mon, I wanna see the reactions of Faith and Xander, along with anyone else you might want to bring in.

Although, I'm shocked - shocked, I say! - that Faith hasn't set up the first Organized and Authorized Club, with the proceeds of the membership fees going to pay for all the photos and memorabilia she can get hold of for them....
