Review of chapter "Interlude: Good, Bad, and Ugly, Part 2" from RevDorothyL
Review:
Spike's enterprising, intelligent, and non-traditional approach to running a sustainable, effective vampire court in Sunnydale is fascinating to read about (and very believable, considering what we saw of Spike's leadership qualities in season 2, when not being distracted by Dru's illness or Angel/Angelus' goading. Well done! :)
Comments from author:
Spike, at least as he was initially introduced, was the true Big Bad of the series. His intelligence, adaptability, and fighting skills put him WELL above everyone short of the Mayor, who ran a 100-year-long scheme to gain immortality and came to within a whisker of succeeding. If they hadn't de-fanged him (metaphorically and more or less literally) that would have continued throughout the show's run. I wanted to showcase that, hence setting Spike up the way I have.

Interesting changes from Buffy canon, particularly Spike and 'Dominga'. Looking forward to where you take them. It looks like Kendra could go either way; either die as a Council-programmed drone or live and join the Slayer-Sentinel team. Having Zabuto on-scene certainly has the potential to change things for all concerned.

It's too bad the Machida-worshipping fraternity wasn't "DKZ" instead of "DZK".

"DKZ" would have been also an acronym that could be pronounced in a way that much better represents the nature of the frat members.
Comments from author:
*nods* Yeah, we're getting far enough out from the 'point of divergence' that this is when things start changing noticeably, even if the changes aren't immediately linked to the changes in the Scoobies (like the changes thus far with the mummy girl). Things get stranger from here on out.

Sadly, I don't think Kendra's fate will change. She's been 'programmed' all her life, and even if she realizes the Watcher way is for shit, the odds of her shaking the conditioning before she gets dead are not good.

And your comment about the frat boys made me laugh.

Nicely done. Having the Mummy still get an identity that way, while not being identical, since things are different; clever use of AU. Enjoying this story!

I can see how the 'snakes in a brain' part of ST:II would've hit far too close to home, after Jon/Jack's experiences with the Goa'uld, but apart from that, I can't argue with "Wrath of Khan" being the preferable Original Series movie to start with (even if there's a good chance Ampata had actually seen it already, possibly dubbed into Arabic or something). :)

Review of chapter "The Return of the Scoobies" from (Current Donor)Ironbear
Review:
"It probably helps that this is less SG-1 and more just one character from that show. Yeah, SG-1 was involved very early on, and will pop up from time to time, but it's mostly the Scoobies and Jon dealing with Sentinel stuff, which probably helps with the burnout."

That and it's Jon - Jack Junior - which also helps. I always liked Jon, and I was sad that we didn't get to see any more of him than we did in show canon on SG-1.

"While I won't be derailing the X/C ship, it *will* take longer to take hold than it did in canon - if only for the reason that Xander is going to be very involved in Jon for a while and not looking to hook up with anyone. While being a Sentinel or Guide doesn't nix an outside relationship, they DO put each other first, and Jon is very new to his senses. Jim was dealing with zoneouts and spikes even at the end of the Sentinel show's run, so ... yeah. Gonna be a while."

No worries. Slow and taking more time to develop isn't bad in a relationship. And taking the time to develop it over a period, especially when there's canon altering events and characters going on, is the mark of a good writer, IMO. (and hey - if the relationship developing slower and more fully over time helps to derail the fluke, too, then all to the good. *g*)

Again, good job. And on that note, I'm back to reading from chapter 17 forward. Cheers. ;)

Review:
"Not to mention that Angel wasn't really wanting to kill Buffy, so he wasn't pulling the really lethal moves out of his arsenal. Still, given that the bulk of vampires in Sunnydale were newly-risen and on the dumb and incompetent side, Buffy wouldn't have much of anything to worry about."

Heh. It's not the professionals you really have to watch for. They're predictable. It's the lucky amateur having a really good day when you're having a really bad one. ;) 'Cause an amateur will do the damnedest things that a pro would never try, and sometimes even pull it off - and the bad guys can lose a thousand times, but it only takes *one* winning *once*.

I'm really liking this story so far. Good job. I got seriously burned out on SG-1 x-overs a long time ago, mostly because I've seen so many badly written and badly thought out ones. But this one is surprisingly well done, and it's holding my interest really well.

The Sentinel tie in helps. There's not enough well written Sentinel crossovers out there.

Have to say, speaking as a X/C fan and shipper, I'm curious to see how you'll handle "What's My Line" and what you'll do there. I like the fact that you seem to so far be derailing the Bagel ship, but I hope you don't derail the C/X ship as well. They were the best and most "real" couple in BtVS, IMO.
Comments from author:
Very true, especially with humans (about pros versus amateurs). Slightly less so with vampires because the vast majority of the amateurs don't have the brains to try anything more radical than 'punch, kick, bite' ... but still, Buffy could, yes, have an off day and they could get lucky.

It probably helps that this is less SG-1 and more just one character from that show. Yeah, SG-1 was involved very early on, and will pop up from time to time, but it's mostly the Scoobies and Jon dealing with Sentinel stuff, which probably helps with the burnout.

Review:
Actually, wouldn't going to the museum be the one thing Kendra thought Buffy did right? After all, museums are where old things, potentially dangerous things, are kept. Keeping an eye on such would be a good thing. Otherwise, good story, and good chapter.
Comments from author:
Ahhh, but see, it's not a Slayer's responsibility to go after *things*. Slayers are to kill demons. IF Buffy's Watcher had perceived there was something dangerous in the museum that needed to be removed and tasked Buffy with its removal, such should have been done alone, at night, not in the company of twenty or thirty civilian teenagers. *grin*

Interesting chapter very interesting.
Good to see Kendra's perspective, interesting to see how "Ampata" ended up staying in Sunnyd this time.

Good chapter, thanks!
