Review of chapter "Sentinel, Meet Guide" from AkashaDrake
Review:
Oh, Teal'c and the guys just did the WRONG thing.

Only thing more protective than a Sentinel is a Guide whose Sentinel is having problems.

Add in the presence of another Sentinel, and another Guide, and you have a perfect recipe for Free For All Royal Rumble when someone knocks a door in
Comments from author:
*falls over laughing* Tell me about it. The only breaks SG-1 is getting is that while Xander and Jon have met, they haven't truly begun to bond yet as Sentinel and Guide, so while Xander will be pissed and protective, it won't be at the levels it could otherwise be at ... and the fact Xander's still injured, and thus physically incapable of doing much of anything at the moment.

Jim and Blair, however, have no such problems. *evil snicker*. And to be completely honest, I have no idea which of the two's scarier. On one hand, pissed off Sentinel protecting his son, who happens to be an injured Guide. On the other ... pissed off Guide protecting not only his own Sentinel but a second Sentinel who's in trouble.

Place your bets, folks. *laughs*. Jack and Teal'c are going to have their hands full and then some.

Even though they changed flights, you still have them landing in Denver. (The minute they landed in Colorado Springs)

And I would have made Jon's animal a fox. Cunning and mischievous. If that doesn't describe O'Neill, I don't know what does. (BTW, it's not too late to go back and change it if you want) ;-)

Other than that. I'm liking where this is going. Keep up the good work.
Comments from author:
Ack! Thanks for catching that. Snuck by me. Grrrr.

While cunning and mischief is definitely a part of Jack's makeup, it's not all of it. His strength, stealth, and ability to lead are also major factors, and the Leopard covers all four of the five qualities, only missing out mischief.

Hey we've got a Turkey! And not in a bad way *smirk*. More of in a Bowling way. Three strikes you've knocked down all the pins. The story has interesting crossovers that have recently seen some very good works done with them. Ok, thought of some more good, you're heading for a 300 game :) You've got decent enough action, though I don't look for that first in a story. The character interactions have so far been very good. The tension level has been peaking at times nicely and you haven't fallen in to angst and fake looking plot developments. The conflicts that have occurred don't fall into the kind that can be explained away in a five minute talk, yet dragged over months. They actually deal with trust and the conflict that has occurred. I can't imagine that Jack is going to be all happy with anything that happens anytime soon no matter what he is told or who on his team is happy with the explanation or how much authority the "rifraf" have :) Plus you've been giving us updates at a very quick pace! Probably because it's the start of summer, but it is a big plus for a story that has short chapters. At least they are short in comparison to what I like to plow through.

Now, on to some speculation. I was kind of surprised when I realized that Xander wouldn't be the Sentinel, but not in a bad way. I at first thought that Jon would be sent to Sunnydale to investigate Xander's case for the police given all the unexplained and the lack of details from the town. I thought he might be called in as a favor to Xander's father. I did think he would make a very good romance interest for Buffy. Can't wait to see that. Didn't know that a Sentinel needed a Guide. Thought that he could share, so wasn't trying to find one for him. Though I did think that Willow would work. With her pairing with Xander, it might just foil the Red Witch plot. Or put a twist on it.

I'm really looking forward to more. Didn't think you would introduce SG1 so soon, but not unhappy with it. It probably makes a lot of sense for them to face off right away rather than get suspicious and then hunt Jon down, the tension in that case would be off the charts.

Looking forward to more. Thanks
Comments from author:
Glad you like it so far.

The fun part of this is that the action's going to pick up soon ... the chapters thus far have all been about getting the players in the same room, which has finally been accomplished, so the actual plot can start happening.

No, Jack is not going to be a happy man. Especially when he realizes it could very well have been HIM that became a Sentinel. *evil grin*. Sam, Daniel and Blair are going to have a mutual geekfest at some point, though not anytime soon (there is no way in hell Jack is going to tell these yahoos about the Gate. Just ... no way in hell). For now it will largely be a one-way geekfest.

Jon never would have been sent in. A mystery police case would never become military jurisdiction unless military personell is the victim or the accused, and that's not the case here. Jim also is very unhappy with the military (has to do with events in Sentinel canon), and due to his being a Sentinel, VERY leery of getting anywhere near military types for fear they'll figure out about the senses and abduct him for experimentation or forcibly reenlist him or something. Hence, he doesn't really muck with them if he has a choice.

Unfortunately, I don't write romance or pairings. I just ... fail ... at writing it, so I don't go there. On top of that, Jon is going to be, and will remain, VERY resistant to forming a romantic attachment to anyone. He may look sixteen, but he's got the mind of a man in his fifties, and dating someone who's underage is VERY squicky for him. And since his body is underage, any adults trying to get cuddly would be equally as squicky.

Yeah, it does make a lot of sense introducing the two groups now. I *really* don't wanna know what Jack'd try to do to Jim and co if they got Jon to Cascade or the 'dale and Jack had to track them down. Yikes!

So Jack FINALLY shows up? Nice timing..YEAH RIGHT! Hopefully Jon got some kind of explanation before they came barging in.
Comments from author:
Well, it's not really Jack's fault it took him this long ... the people who're supposed to be keeping an eye on Jon were screwing around and didn't say anything.

They are gonna be in SO much trouble!

Gut reaction to the cliffy at the end... O_O "Oh crap..."
Comments from author:
Yeah, it definitely doesn't look good from this angle, does it.

All I'ma say, is remember ... Jim is a fully functional Sentinel.

Ok, I did not predict that you'd bring in the SG1 team. That kinda has me on tenterhooks now. Can't wait to see what happens. Especially can't wait to find out if Jon got his explanation before SG1 came barging in.
Comments from author:
I've always intended for SG-1 to be involved, if only occasionally as backup and a source of hardware, in the fic. You'll see how much if any of the explanation Jon got in the next chapter. *snicker* it's going to be a fun one.

i am so glad you are back! i have missed this so much. *hands you scones*
Comments from author:
*laughs* I am so sorry for the long silence. My only excuse is that Harry Potter decided to eat my brain for a while, ad I've now got several stories in that fandom up at ff.net, under this same username. There will be a new chappie of this sometime either late this week or early next, depending on how well my muses cooperate.

Yay! Most of what I wanted to say (all the positive stuff, damn it!) has already been said by other people. I have one nit to pick, however: Sir Burton. Sorry, but no. Honorifics rarely go with surnames, "Lord Such-and-Such" being the obvious exception, and in particular "Sir" always goes with a forename. It would be "Sir Richard", except that's a bit familiar in context. On the whole Giles is more likely to just refer to him as "Burton" here.

The waiting is almost over. Soon. Is Xander going to be Jon ONeill's guide? It seemed like Jon was having senses issues. I'm wondering how they will even meet.
Comments from author:
Ding Ding Ding! We have a winnah! Yep, you got it. Xander is Jon's Guide. As for how they'll meet ... well, all I'ma say is that it wasn't mere coincidence that put Blair in Cascade when Jim needed him the most ... and something similar will happen with Xander and Jon. *grin*
