Review of chapter "No One Mourns the Wicked" from Genuka
Review:
Well, that certainly shifted my world view on Walsh drastically. You truly are evil. You do realize that playing with your readers minds is dangerously close to the convention of forbidden mental arts set down in 1863 right? *smirk*
Should you(or anyone else) choose to use that totally fictional convention/treaty feel free. I only ask that I be cited. *evil grin of doom providing plot bunnies!!!!!!!*
Edit: I'm glad I could make you happy; and I totally understand about the "yeah, she's evil... I wonder why?" Happens to me all the time and drives my family nuts because I windup deconstructing the personality/character and putting it back together without the twisting/corrupting influence and see how it was originally meant to be seen and they just don't get it. Much less how I can see that one out of the originally presented one.
Comments from author:
If I opened one person's mind, then I'm happy. I remember watching the series the first time and going, "Yeah, she's evil", but I watched it again to start writing fics and I just couldn't see it any more.

Review:
Vaccines prevent viruses, not genetic disorders - Down Syndrome is Trisomy 21 aka 3 copies of the 21st chromosome. So it's a genetic disorder, and it's generally a new mutation, not inherited from a parent who also had T21. It's not a disease and a vaccine of any type would be useless even a magical pretend vaccine - there is nothing to vaccinate against. Complications like heart defects and early onset dementia need to be treated & a cure for those would be great but the idea T21 itself needs to be cured is very offensive. Then again, Maggie is kind of an evil character so if that's the goal, go for it. If you're trying to make her sympathetic, I'd make her try to cure her sister's fatal illness or something, not a developmental disability. I am interested to see more about Maggie since she's hardly ever even mentioned in fic. (I came to this fic by way of the previous one in the series & am enjoying that one a lot - just didn't have anything else to add over there that other people hadn't covered yet in reviews.)
Comments from author:
No, that wasn't the goal. I just don't really understand Down Syndrome other than it was genetic.
I had a lot more planned for Maggie at one time. But test reads showed me that she's REALLY hated by some people. We'll see how people respond to this and the blurb in the other story. Most future action will probably take place there.
Thank you for your review. I apologize for my ignorance.

Well that's not as bad as I thought, just some background.

Thank you. Out of curiosity, how bad did you think it would be?

It's different, and I kind of like it, one minor nitpick however is the fact that Down Syndrome can't be "caught", it's a syndrome which stems from an extra chromosome and thus a vaccine would be impossible unless given to the potential parents, and that's less a vaccine and more gene therapy as it's a recessive trait (from what little I remember from high school science classes).
Comments from author:
I realized that it can't be caught. Not really sure what caused it. Whatever it was Maggie was sure she was going to "cure" it.
Edit: I seem to have lost your recommendation. Since you're one of my earliest reviews, I was wondering if there was anything I did? Or can do?
