Almost missed the update. This was great, I can't fault characterization or style. Having the nurse be "MacLay" without specifying whether she is, or is not related to Tara, is a particularly devious touch.

I'm always glad to see another chapter of this story show up, and Xander leading a group of competent Mandalorian wannabe ACS troops into combat and kicking Posleen ass is definitely enjoyable to read.
The excerpts showing what's happening in the meantime back in Sunnydale are also interesting, and showing the changes you've made to canon, with both Gunns showing up in Sunnydale, is quite reasonable and demonstrates how seemingly minor changes can have major repercussions.
And Buffy's reaction to Gunn's comment made me laugh out loud, since it's exactly the same as Xander would have had, with the exception that Xander might have thought to keep his mouth shut and just think it, instead. Maybe. ;-)

Outstanding!! Anyone who can take one of Mr. Ringo's Realities and blend their own vision into it is automatically on my List That Must Be Read, but the way you've done it here is thought out, well done, and too fracking short... OK, the last is 'cause I was really enjoying it when the the present chapters ended.
The Posleen are a foe that most resemble the demons Xander is all too familiar with, while still mortal enough that firepower, comrades, and sheer guts can defeat. The training he's getting here will have to be modified upon his return to the Buffy Reality - and won't that be a kick in the head for everyone involved! - but hopefully he can persuade the Slayers as to its effectiveness. Faith should be the easier of the two, even if Buffy might be more willing in this Reality than in canon. The Queens were a /nice/ touch; now I gotta go back and re read the series again... As soon as I finish re reading the Paladin of Shadows series (aka Ghost and His Keldara), that is. (That's a hint, by the by, in case your Muse is reading over your shoulder...)
See that Faith's still Watcher-less at this point, six months after Xander's "death"; hoping that you can avoid the whole 'descent into Darkness' schtick for Faith in this. While dramatic, it is unnecessary with the Hellmouth sitting right underneath them and drawing all sorts of evil toward it - including the Initiative. She got far more abuse in canon than anyone else, little wonder she broke before Xander.
A well written look at Xander's development in the Army and they finally get an assignment right. I can't wait to see how the madness increases with Xander leading a platoon of weapon nut Star Wars geeks.

Very good. One possibility for Angel's behavior - The spell cast by the spirit possessing Willow returned Angel to the state he was before he became a vampire. The last thing it wanted was for Angel to loose his soul again.

Pretty good story. I admit, I'm partial to bits of it because of the more interesting portrayal of 'Liam'/'Angel', which fits great with his history.
The title is an attention grabber, and gives an excellent hint for expectations.
The last bit in this chapter was somewhat odd though. Not huge, but it looked like you were thinking about a bad self image and not as much about the conversation itself.
“This is it!” Xander thought. “This is where he tells me I’m not good enough for the ACS and I’m booted back to the Line Infantry.”
doesn't really fit right immediately after the commander said he was watching Xander's last VR, and compliments him on only being beaten by a Lander, and had just previously commented on a number of wins in the VR. It might work better if there was something about Xander expecting 'now the bad news', or the previous cushioning the blow, or somewhat, but as it is, he's really shown no reason to be thinking that, even if he thought poorly of himself.

Wicked stuff dude, loving your tale. I promised myself I'd review every chapter of this one (unless we get two chapters or more before I read it) even if it's just a matter of "still reading, still love it".
