Got to hate folks who snoop at doors.

That was really a great chapter. The Buffy/Dejah romance ist beginning. And it seems that their escape will be next because I do not trust Sarkoja and if Buffy is summoned shortly after that old hag was eavesdropping then nothing good can come out of it.

Fun story! Loved the naming of her 'dog'.

Sometimes a bit overboard with the Buffy-isms, but much better control this chapter.

I particularly liked the humor of, "It wasn't that I was worried about what people thought about me returning from heaven or hell or Oxnard or something." but you missed a terrific opportunity there to basically duplicate Buffy's underlying snarkiness in a similar thing. (e.g. "...heaven or hell or... God, even Oxnard!")

And yes...I've spent some time in Oxnard, CA. A direct association with Hell still may be appropriate.

(Buffy's lines to her mother regarding how she'd even prefer to be doing homework than be a Slayer were, "Do you think I chose to be like this? Do you have any idea how lonely it is? How dangerous? I would love to be upstairs watching TV or gossiping about boys or... God, even studying! But I have to save the world. Again." I think that was the episode in which she sent Angel to Hell via Acathla.)

Review of chapter "IX -- Hanging With a Princess" from JimmX
Review:
This is a nifty idea, but there's an awful lot of direct copying from Princess of Mars.

So far, it looks like you're just rewriting the John Carter narration and speech into Buffy-speak. I suppose technically, there's nothing wrong with that. But if that's your long term plan, you might acknowledge that this is more a re-write of Burroughs work than a crossover.
Comments from author:
I have said that in quite a few of the comment replies. Also it will be diverging very soon now.

Review of chapter "VIII -- Asskicker and Boss" from ShalaDakiri
Review:
This is a fun read. Like Allen pointed out, Burroughs's works are at Gutenberg. I downloaded "A Princess of Mars" after I started reading this story, so it's interesting and a little odd read both stories at (more or less) the same time.

Translating Burroughs to Whedonese is tough!

For those who haven't read the series, they're all available free online at google's 'gutenberg': www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/62 for the first one.
Hm....any chance of B. having a prophetic dream? ...

I never even heard about Barsoom before reading this fanfic, but even so I really enjoyed reading it. I might even read Barsoom series? now too. Seriously, all I know about it is what wikipedia told me... but it is irreveleant because this fic is awesome.

It is kind of in reverse for me here, first read a fic about the book/world and then read actual book :D ^_^

Another outstanding effort. Buffy's personality really does resemble John Carter's, as this chapter makes clear.

Review of chapter "VII -- Martian as it is Spoken" from BarbarossaRotbart
Review:
It does not look very good for Dejah if that olg hag gets her way. Let's hope that Buffy and Sola will have a plan.

"Mr. Gordo" certainly makes more sense than "Woola". And Buffy didn't know the 'gang sign', funny allusion. That'll teach the Heliumites to fly over deserted cities.
On wordiness/paid by the word--yep. Plus, this was his first published novel, he got a lot better on things like pacing later on. I am now in the mood to see the film when it comes out next year.
