Very cool! It's been decades since I last read any of the John Carter books, so this is a lovely blast from the past.

Thanks. My dad got me hooked when I was about 6 or 7 so it's been around 40 years since I first started reading them.

Like the Warlord of Mars tribute you've got going here. Will the Slayer ever run into John Carter, or is this a different Barsoom than his? I got the impression from the one Green Martian that he ha some familiarity with Buffy's abilities, so I'm thinking she and Carter will interact at some point; since he's made the trip to and from Earth several times in the books, it'd be a way for her to get some serious training she lacked on Earth while getting some pampering between adventures.
Enjoying your take so far, hoping for more so on!

Who is this John Carter you speak of? All I see here is a clean-limbed fighting woman from California...
I really hope you continue with this. I read all the Barsoom novels in high school and enjoyed them tremendously. Great swashbuckling adventure stories, even if they didn't really make any sense (swords and super sniper rifles in the same fight). For bonus points, someone other than me could do a fanart using one of the old Roy Krenkel or Frank Frazetta covers.
This should be good. I first read ERB's A Princess Of Mars more than 40 years ago, and even today I can pick up any of the Barsoom novels and enjoy a very good adventure. I am definitely looking forward to seeing Buffy on Barsoom. Talk about culture shock...Mars may never be the same again.

They are awesome. John Carter is a hero that deserves to be remembered, even more than Tarzan in my opinion.

Now here's a crossover idea I haven't seen done before! And very timely, as the "John Carter" film comes out next year, 100th anniversary of the first novel. Dang. So....will she arrive in the period after the last official John C. adventure (off on Jupiter) or is it set earlier? Barsoom is a large world, plenty of room for individual adventures even without meeting the main cast. Dang. Just being from the heavy gravity planet Earth she'd be stronger. As a slayer on top of that, she has nothing to worry about in terms of banths, great apes, etc. And nobody will take her seriously at first glance. If anything, they might think she's a Holy Thern (if it's set after book #2 or so). That could be amusing. I can see it now: when all the portals opened, one vampire made it to Barsoom also. Ouch.

It's not my idea, just answering a challenge. It's basically going to be Buffy in the John Carter role of the first book, 'A Princess of Mars'.
