Well Jason Gridley that invented the Gridley wave radio that could communicate with Barsoom also went on an expedition to Pellucidar that had as one of the members Tarzan. So the series are crossed over in canon. Giles may even know the Greystokes, the old watcher families should move in those circles.

Review:
"a bag of stuff that comes in bags" - this story gets better with each chapter, if not every paragraph. Having Buffy tell the story was an inspired choice (and yes, I know ERB did it that way). For a sequel, somebody (and again, not me) could do Faith in Pellucidar, or Dawn among the Mangani.

Review:
I don't know the crossover but is an interesting story and I hope you will continue it.
Comments from author:
You've never read Burroughs' Martian Romances!?!

Here's a link to the first one (it's public domain). http://www.manybooks.net/titles/burroughseetext93pmars13.html

You can thank me later...

Review:
OK, after spotting the Barsoom in the title I am now waiting impatiently for this story. I look forward with great hopes that this one will be very good. Hopefully a loooooooooong story as well? ;) A mere 200/300k words would be fine. :) Best wishes on matching the two story lines and ideas.
Comments from author:
200-300k!!!! Uhm...I'll tryyyyyyy but I generally top-out at 16-17k. However I do write sequels and series and my Drusilla/Batman crossover is about 61k. Okay I'll try, but no promises!

Here's your chance to deviate slightly from canon. Instead of calling it "Woola" she can name it "Mr. Gordo" ! heh.

Another great chapter. And we have met Tars Tarkas (that's a name Buffy really cannot butcher) and Sola. I really cannot wait for Dejah Thoris.
Comments from author:
Tars is the greatest sidekick in pulp fiction. Even better than Doc's fabulous five (though it is close with Monk Mayfair). Sola is awesome and not a stereotypical female character from the early 20th century either!

Review:
Well, this story is getting really interesting. And it seens to be a rewrite of "Princess of Mars" with Buffy instead of John Carter.
Comments from author:
That's the general plan, but translating Burroughs into Buffy or vice versa is not easy...

Maybe add Barsoom after the ... in the description. I almost went past without reading because it didn't sound that interesting. But Barsoom as a crossover is very interesting.

Good idea. Done!

Very cool! It's been decades since I last read any of the John Carter books, so this is a lovely blast from the past.
Comments from author:
Thanks. My dad got me hooked when I was about 6 or 7 so it's been around 40 years since I first started reading them.

Review:
Like the Warlord of Mars tribute you've got going here. Will the Slayer ever run into John Carter, or is this a different Barsoom than his? I got the impression from the one Green Martian that he ha some familiarity with Buffy's abilities, so I'm thinking she and Carter will interact at some point; since he's made the trip to and from Earth several times in the books, it'd be a way for her to get some serious training she lacked on Earth while getting some pampering between adventures.

Enjoying your take so far, hoping for more so
on!
Comments from author:
Who is this John Carter you speak of? All I see here is a clean-limbed fighting woman from California...

I really hope you continue with this. I read all the Barsoom novels in high school and enjoyed them tremendously. Great swashbuckling adventure stories, even if they didn't really make any sense (swords and super sniper rifles in the same fight). For bonus points, someone other than me could do a fanart using one of the old Roy Krenkel or Frank Frazetta covers.
Comments from author:
And image is added to the prologue :P

That was quick... next question to settle---Princess of Mars or Prince of Mars to be rescued? Works either way of course.

Review:
This should be good. I first read ERB's A Princess Of Mars more than 40 years ago, and even today I can pick up any of the Barsoom novels and enjoy a very good adventure. I am definitely looking forward to seeing Buffy on Barsoom. Talk about culture shock...Mars may never be the same again.
Comments from author:
They are awesome. John Carter is a hero that deserves to be remembered, even more than Tarzan in my opinion.

Review:
Now here's a crossover idea I haven't seen done before! And very timely, as the "John Carter" film comes out next year, 100th anniversary of the first novel.
Dang. So....will she arrive in the period after the last official John C. adventure (off on Jupiter) or is it set earlier? Barsoom is a large world, plenty of room for individual adventures even without meeting the main cast.
Dang. Just being from the heavy gravity planet Earth she'd be stronger. As a slayer on top of that, she has nothing to worry about in terms of banths, great apes, etc. And nobody will take her seriously at first glance. If anything, they might think she's a Holy Thern (if it's set after book #2 or so). That could be amusing. I can see it now: when all the portals opened, one vampire made it to Barsoom also. Ouch.
Comments from author:
It's not my idea, just answering a challenge. It's basically going to be Buffy in the John Carter role of the first book, 'A Princess of Mars'.
