Review of chapter "Not Looking For Forgiveness" from Gideon
Review:
So Angel knows he killed Justine - probably won't get much argument there. Does Angel now know that Wesley is immortal though? And does he know what that means?
The way Lilah just got promoted it is almost like she got promoted because Wesley was able to bring Angel back. That sucks.
Comments from author:
She got promoted IN THE SHOW because she went over Linwoods head, then killed him..

Review:
Cheater! But yeah, it made no sense to stick to swords. I think it's the fact that most immortals predate guns, and the 'mentoring' system where everyone's inculcated with the Rules that keeps that one going. The 'not on holy ground' is actually enforced, so they accept all the Rules, probably. Hm. I wonder if the Council that follows Immortals around has tumbled to his existence yet? There'd have been one assigned to the one he just killed. Might not have spotted wesley of course. He's probably the first Watcher ever to be an immortal.
And now he's got a group. And this time he's got the advantage, he knows a hell of a lot more than they do, has actual experience and now has that immortal thing going for him. Now that he's taken a head, he's a lot more powerful as well. In the show it didn't make sense the way he just dropped his new team -never referred to again. I hope they'll stick around longer this time.

Review of chapter "Eventful Summer II" from (Current Donor)JanessaRavenwood
Review:
The real problem I see with Wes getting together with Lilah is her contract - pretty much a no-go with that pairing unless in your version she hasn't signed one.

EDIT: As I recall, the problem is that the contracts are essentially a permanent binding agreement. It's not so much that they bind the person after death but that they bind the person to service in perpetuity as soon as the contract is signed, which simply doesn’t *stop* obligating the person to service just because they die. Pretty much your standard “contract with the devil for riches, power and fame” scenario. So again, your best bet is to say that Lilah hasn’t yet been promoted high enough in the W&H hierarchy to require one yet – a *real* sharp lawyer would of course take one look at such a contract and *not* sign it. And Lilah never struck me as dumb.
Comments from author:
You mean the standard perpetuity clause?

Being immortal kinda voids the whole 'keep working after you die' thing, since she's not really dead. As I understand it, the SPC works because Wolfram and Hart gets your soul (or what's left of it, anyway) when you die and animates you again/whatever.

Lilah as an immortal wouldn't STAY dead, so her soul stays where she is.

And quitting a Demon Law Firm just means working the loopholes.

Review:
At this stage it isn't a surprise to see Wesley cheating, although can it be called cheating if you don't know the rules? I wonder if he has picked up a watcher of his own through that fight?
I wonder how Wolfram and hart contracts handle immortals? Can Lilah's contract be enforced via the after death clause if she is once again alive again? Maybe it depends on whether they are aware of this type of immortals any more than the council are. And Wesley has groupies, how cute :)
Comments from author:
He has that team in the real show too, though they only show up for about two seconds.

Review of chapter "Eventful Summer I" from AllenPitt
Review:
His reaction makes a lot of sense. Of course it's all complicated --he's angry at them, but knows he's responsible for Angel losing his child; W. screwed up, which feeds into his insecurities -so carefully nurtured in him by his very evil father (who I think felt threatened by the idea of W. being as good or better than him as a watcher, so made sure he wouldn't be by giving him a slayer to manage a few years before he'd be ready to handle it). That phone call earlier on where W. reported his promotion-then you can see how Roger just systematically destroyed his self confidence. ouch.
Finding & rescuing Angel repays the debt he owes, plus shows everyone he's NOT incompetent. I think those are his reasons, quite aside from the champion thing. ..... so he meets an immortal? Neat. Would Wesley respect 'holy ground' and 'only use swords', I wonder? Never understood why all immortals respected that. Maybe it's built in? Or just tradition?
Comments from author:
As I understand it, there's like....negative enviromental effects of the a quickening being realeased into an Immortal on holy ground. I think I recall it being mentioned on the show that the last time the rule was broken it was in Pompeii in 79 A.D.

As for the swords thing, that's probably tradition - guns are new, and as new immortals are mentored by old ones, they inculate that in people.

Review of chapter "Eventful Summer I" from Gideon
Review:
Wesley is a tricky son of bitch isn't he? Cutting Fred to shreds on the phone because she dared to ask for help finding Angel even while he has Justine is his closet because he is trying to find Angel! It does look good for Lilah though, even if that is not entirely why he did it. I can understand that sometimes it feels good to be bad and it is often the people you care about most that you can hurt the most.
Comments from author:
Well, in canon its said that they called him twice for help and he didn't give it.

He doesn't want to give them the wrong idea. He's trying to find Angel because of all the people Angel will be able to save. NOT because he's their friend anymore.

Fred's good at decapitating things as I recall. And can be rather morally grey. She enjoyed tasering Connor. Wesley better watch it unless he wants treatment similar to Justine.

Review of chapter "Lilah" from bucksavage
Review:
It's a bit AU for my usual tastes, but it is really rather good, the descriptions and side stories and all the little nagging details are very well incorporated. I mean, how much can one character talk to ones self? lol
Comments from author:
Everyone talks to themself all the time.

Its called thinking.

This fic is in part a window into the mindset of my favorite character in the Buffyverse (Wesley) as well as story exploring the 'what if' of Wesley being an immortal who dies his first death when Justine cuts his throat, and the AU-ness that would extend from it. So far, just minor changes in Wesley and Lilah's conversations, but we'll see more of that (as well as getting into Wesley's torture/interrogation of Justine) in the two Summer Chapters.

Thanks for the review!

Review:
Interesting take. I wonder if you're going to go AU at any point of just show us a different look at Wesley's thoughts and actions. Also wondering how far you're thinking of going with this.
Comments from author:
A lot of it will be around exploring Wesley and the way he thinks, and there will be some additional exploration of the relationship between Lilah and Wesley and its development (Though I am not, unfortunately, a skilled writer of relationships in depth, no doubt due to the only 'relationship' I've ever had was in kindergarden, and we all know how things are when you're that young). The first big time break with the canonical events will happen early on in Season 4 (I have two chapters planned devoted to the summer between 3 and 4) and it will spiral from there, drawn from increase Alienation this Wesley has from his former friends, and the fact that he is Immortal - and that Lilah clearly is as well, thoigh if she's pre/post her first death is intentionally unclear just yet.

The biggest break with canon will be in the mid-season, and things will rapidly spiral out from there.

Review of chapter "Lilah" from Gideon
Review:
So how long will it take for Wesley to work out what that buzzing is? Till Lilah's first death? The Watcher's council seem to be woefully underinformed about Immortals. Do the Immortal Watchers not exist in this story?
Comments from author:
The Immortals Watchers and the Watchers' Council are entirely seperate organizatons with no knowledge of the other (though the Immortal Watchers have a loose understanding of vampires, demons, etc.) They may have the same name, but that is only because they do the same thing - Watch. They have no connection and their origins are entirely differant.

Review of chapter "Lilah" from FireFlyFan
Review:
Fascinating story. I always found this portion of the Angel series to be great because Wesley i think is one of the characters with the most growth and this pretty much burned away most of the Wesley we saw way back in Buffy. The twist of the immortality makes it better though. Will it bring the darkness out or will it make him even more good. Quickenings can taint an immortals morality, will that happen here? Plus Lilah....well she was always a great bad guy and smoking hot, hard to beat that combination. Cant wait to see more.
Comments from author:
I'm glad you liked it, and Wesley will stay the same Gray Hat we come to know and love in latter-season 3/ and in Season 4/Season 5. Wesley really, is Gray Hat defined, IMHO.

Review of chapter "Lilah" from AllenPitt
Review:
After what happened to wesley, his actions make perfect sense. I'm amazed that, in the show, he was able to right himself (kind of) by the time he did. Though that whole memory spell thing took a lot away from him...
I'm particularly interested in seeing what you do in the time between the end of this season and the start of the next--he at some point decides to form his own supernatural detective agency; recruits employees for it; and is very successful with it. How in heck did he do it? (while Fred/Gunn were accomplishing nothing looking for Angel). AND looking for and finding Angel, AND researching Cordelia's whereabouts... and holding Justine prisoner in his closet. The Wesley of Buffy S3 could never have managed that, for sure.
And what did happen to that agency & those employees, anyway? Where did he find them? and so on.... Does he meet any other immortals, maybe take a head & gain knowledge/power... figure out why Lilah gives off that 'buzz'. Can't wait to see how you answer all this.

Review of chapter "Lilah" from MarcusSLazarus
Review:
I'm not sure about the Monty Python gag- that bit about the canoe, or something else?-, but I'm fairly confident about why Wes is getting that 'feeling' about Lilah; the only question is if it's because she's 'pre-' or 'post-', if you know what I mean...
Comments from author:
Yes, the canoe line. They did a live show somewhere and at one point they started passing out Australian (because they were pretending to be Australian for some reason) beer, and made the joke. (Saw it on youtube a few years back)

And as for Lilah, well, I can't spoil it. But she's one or the other, yes.

Review:
Weasley inner monologue was amusing if a bit dramatic, I hope for some action with Wes and maybe dropping the 'woe is me' he has going right now, but I find it entertaining if nothing else.
Comments from author:
He will be dropping it eventually, but you have to consider that is exactly the place Wesley was in, after the whole thing went down. He wasn't in a very good place, and he really was 'woe is me', to a degree, in the show.

Thanks forth the review!
