Heck, the one impression I carry consistently of Castle, is that he does care. Sometimes he's an ass and knows it, sometimes he doesn't realize he's annoying people. And he's not Sherlock Holmes.
But even Kate has figured out that he gives a damn.
So it makes sense he'd react this way after hearing Xander's tale.
A very different way of presenting the meeting between Xander and Castle. Very sweet the way (was it Buffy?) kept telling him what he needed to know to get Willow her gift.
Much better than the stories where one of the Scoobies attacks Castle because of the resemblance. I especially loved how Xander kept calling whoever - I'm assuming Buffy - to have them reassure him that Caleb was dead.
Really very nice, I like the concept and the execution. And I really look forward to dinner.
And truly, I think Xander and Richard Castle would get along really well--two peas. After all Castle plays laser tag with his teenage daughter. I think the dinner will be good for him. And hooray for brave Xander, facing the face of his fear to get Willow's gift.

As much as I dislike Xander, I truly love this story and I'm glad he was able to face down his fear. I can definitely see why Caste and the detectives were all quite impressed with Xander's actions, both during the doings with Caleb and facing down his own fear to get a special present for his best friend. That said, I've a feeling dinner is going to be an interesting proposition and I'm really looking forward to reading the next chapter. Thank you for sharing!
