Review of chapter "SG-1 and a Brit" from fanreaderonetwo
Review:
"Forget Algonquin and Iroquois, what about Egyptian and French and German and Japanese and Spanish and... The 'loanword' is a large part of the language.

“English doesn’t borrow from other languages. English follows other languages down dark alleys, knocks them over and goes through their pockets for loose grammar.” ~ Terry Pratchett"

******

Recalling H Beam Piper's version of how English came to be, IIRC "Norman (post 1066) men-at-arms trying to make dates with Saxon bar maids".....
Comments from author:
People have been complaining about the English language for almost as long as it has been a language. :D

Re: recruiting Willow and Xander...

It will have to happen, of course. But, here's the thing... recruiting them do to _what_ exactly? I don't think that the best use for them would be in positions within the SGC complex.

Sure, Willow's mind is a resource worthy tapping. And sure, Xander is a great ace-in-the-hole, since everybody underestimates the goofball.

But, putting Xander in a SG team is not likely to work very well. He's not military and he has no special expertise like Daniel or Teal'c. Basically, he would be taking the place of a grunt, only without the grunt's discipline and training (he has received quite a bit of training, but not the sort to endear him to a CO who is not called Jack O'Neill).

Willow, then, is an expert programmer and hacker... but the SGC does not do much hacking or programming. Also, poaching her from Microsoft would raise all sorts of attention. Not to mention that it's unlikely that the SGC could match whatever she's earning in Redmond.

No, the best roles I can see for Willow and Xander is... right where they are, as utterly unknown assets the SGC can use to protect itself from the NID.

Review:
The snark and banter is simply priceless. They along make this a must read. This might be a de-powered version of Buffy, but you've really nailed her character down. I almost pity Carter and Giles who are Jack's and Buffy's snarking mercy.

Good Stuff!

Comments from author:
Liz doesn't usually get to be so snarky on missions. And she's a bad influence on Sidney.

Liz Slices, Liz Dices, Liz Julianes.

Yes Pillage then burn an old Sholck favorite!

Hmm as for post mission, perhaps a Tok'ra Ambassador to Earth?

I've always figured that English "Befriends" other languages.

:D :D :D Nanoha jokes for the win! Nanoha Takamachi should be the poster child for why you should learn math.

Review:
"pillage, then burn"; I'm always getting that wrong...

Also, "English walks off with lots of fun words other languages didn’t lock up with enough guards around them."; and the American version puts them on maps, which is why so many places in the US have Algonquin or Iriquois names.

Seriously, this is an excellent chapter; easy to follow, good action and tension, and just enough banter. I'm guessing that Liz will be joining the SGC permanently when this is over.

Review:
They will have to recruit Willow and Xander. Unless they tell them what happened to Liz the SGC will be next on the list of organizations to bring down. Liz telling them that the SGC are good guys and she will be working or them and not leaving the mountain won't convince them of anything except that Liz is captured and under duress. NDAs and the truth would work but once you do that not recruiting two really competent people doesn't make sense.
Comments from author:
Yes, that is going to have to get resolved in one way or another, because Willow is dangerously persistent.

I imagine Scratchy will come up if Liz says it out loud in Jack's presence, rather than thought at Sid.

Looks like we'll be seeing a Ronco Snake Slicer demo: lifetime guarantee to never need sharpening, so little Super-Lizzies can slice, dice, and filet to their hearts' content.

Trinium sabers. Whose idea was that? :D

You are so getting props for using one of the best giant robot teams ever. And with the most exciting name.
But this fic has me wishing that Liz could find some Tok'ra to introduce to Xander and Willow because unleashing those three on the universe would be so awesome.
And she does bring up a valid question --- if she kisses another tok'ra is it a foursome?
Comments from author:
Maybe you should ask Carter that question with regard to Jolinahr and watch her get really uncomfortable. :D

OK, this is coming along prettily! So the boom wasn't the anti-bamfing shield going poof, or is it just taking time between boom and bamf? And... NINJA BUFFY! Show them snakes the business!

I'm absolutely loving the banter between the Three Snark-a-teers.
Comments from author:
Thanks. And now it's time for Liz to show what Summers girls can do when push comes to shove.

I'm hoping that when Liz and SG1 get done with this job, that Liz gets offered a position with SGC. I think that between her and Sydney, they would be a major help to SGC. That is, assuming that they get out of this mess in one piece! Now, it IS time for SUPER ROBOT MONKEY TEAM HYPERFORCE . . . GO!
Comments from author:
Liz knows enough pop culture to make the heads of the Tok'ra Council implode. :D

Diane: I think there is already a great 'meeting of Buffys' out there. But I do have (long-term) plans for an inter-dimensional Alex story.

Yeah, batzulger (who else?) did that. 1889Gotham!Buffy pulls Military Option!Buffy, Earth-616!Buffy, UniSol!Buffy, Detective!Buffy, Barsoon!Buffy, and The Read Star!Buffy in to fight the latest version of Glory, who may or may not be HHHolmes!Joker (been a while since I read it).

Yes. It is one of the stories on this site which I marked with a Recommendation.

Review:
Given that Buffy is marked for death back on Earth and the SGC is always going to be a bit hesitant about Sidney, I'm expecting Buffy to head out into the stars and maybe show the Tok'ra a thing or three about how you really run deep cover black ops.

I commented over in the Return section about how much I would like to see another round of dimensional crossing for Alex. A different take, that I would also like to see, would be a meeting of your various Buffies, VampireSlayer meets FloombaSwarm meets BlackOpsTok'ra and AlexVerseBuffy's reality show camera crew captures it all. BionicVerse and PotterVerse Buffy haven't had significant roles yet, though BionicVerse Willow and Xander have. With Loki taking an interest in dimensional shenanigans, you have means readily at hand to make this sort of thing happen.

Hilarious! And time to steal a healing device, stat! Or a Sarcophagus. Are those at all portable? Even more a priority then things that go boom.
Liz and Sidney joining SG-1 after all this might be the best thing ever, even if its on some part time basis for when she isn't dismantling the NID.
Comments from author:
A sarcophagus is only portable in the sense that Superman can carry it with no trouble. They're pretty massive.

Review:
You do know that Buffy getting an upgrade will only cause Xander to be more attracted to her. Demons love him lol. Buffy might finally see him as a potential partner if his good points are pointed out to her. I admit to not being a big fan of the goof ball but I think the xander you have developed may actually be a grown up and worth datnig. Then again I think it be fun to pair Buffy with Mini Jack just to annoy the old guy. I also love to see Buffy arrange for Jack and Sam to finally get together lol.
Comments from author:
I have a tendency to give people character development. Granted, Xander developed an enormous amount over the course of the series, from 'extremely dorky loser' to 'guy who the Council are idiots not to recruit' to 'guy who is willing to go up against apocalyptic badness because it is the right thing to do'. At the start, he's Bill and Ted looking for an Excellent Adventure. By the end, he's Nick Fury.
