A very touching story. You don't see many stories with Jean/Emma as the main charachters. But Emma should not cry. Jean will be back, but not as Jean. No, I forsee the PHOENIX arising and soon! And this would definetly shake things up in this version of the X-Men universe. I'm thinking the old WB version of the X_men, if my reading is correct.

It's not based around any particular version of the X-Men; Lexi's doing a lot of origin story work and design drawing because they are incarnations of her own design.

Oh, very nice. My compliments to Lexi. It's a very interesting style of writing, very evocative. In that sense, also very realistic. Normally human brains are constantly forming connections and comparing certain sights and sounds to others they remember, and for telepaths, no doubt this would be much enhanced. So the way what we see is inextricably tied up with Emma's thoughts is a very nice touch.
Jean/Emma is practically me favorite X-men ship. So I'm all behind this. I really liked the little glimpse we got into their relationship and life, it seemed so nice. Brief but beautiful, with all the adorableness of Jean and quirkiness of Emma. They were both superbly characterized, though obviously Emma was a lot lighter, due to different life circumstances.
The tragedy... well, I think it was done practically perfectly. Emma's connection to Jean, that final farewell in the mind and Emma returning to her body alone... as I said, perfect.
Lastly, I will note that there was a subtle indicator that this is not the end.. we see Jean become the Phoenix here, of course, but beyond that, the Phoenix itself said: 'The world will need her, and she will need you.' So I too hope to see more of this ship one day.

It was probably about as hard for me to beta as it was for her to write; she hasn't done prose in forever and a day and I've never done anything in third-person present much less a style as unique as this. In the end, though, I think things came out all right...

Magnificent...and so very, very sad.

I know Lexi's planning to extend this into a second chapter at a minimum, but I think (emphasis think) that it'll become a comic as well at some point. She's putting a lot of effort into writing stuff out for now, though.
