Review of chapter "Reunion in Lorien" from AllenPitt
Review:
I wonder what Galadriel makes of Anya. Talk about 'reformed demon'. That's kind of rare. and 1,100 years old, too. I've always thought they should have done more with A. --must have huge store of knowledge about magic / demons etc.
Huh. If they hear about the "Ring of Amara" that Spike had briefly, would they compare it to the great rings made long ago in 2nd age...
Nice to see Buffy is adapting and accepting, also Dawn. But yeah, it's going to be sad, them watching Xander & company die of old age "so quickly". Though I wonder a bit about Willow, maybe being at istari level would keep her going?
Comments from author:
I'm pondering writing a bit about the Scoobies in Lothlorien, I feel like I dropped them in favor of focusing on Buffy's interactions.

As far as Willow and mortality, she may be a powerful witch, but she's still mortal. In Tolkien canon, mortals who try to cheat death or extend their life beyond their normal span tend to have bad ends. (The Fall of Numenor and the Witch King of Angmar come to mind. Actually, all the Nazgul.)

Brilliant. I'm not normally a great fan of LOTR x-overs particularly those that involve, Harry P, Buffy, the Pevensies etc joining the Fellowship as it doesn't add anything to either LOTR or the others. This however works superbly not least in giving us a different perspective on all of the main characters, congratulations & well done.
One minor question, this story obviously takes place just before the Hobbit, will Buffy etc meet the company when they arrive @ Rivendell & possibly join them. The thought of Buffy taking on Smaug or at the Battle of the Five armies is mouth watering. One ships my vote is for Aragorn/Arwen, they just fit, Dawn is the annoying sister for Aragorn as well as Arwen & Buffy.
Comments from author:
Thank you.
Buffy may meet the company in Rivendell, but she's certainly not going with them. She may end up at the Battle of the Five Armies, but if she does she will be with the Elves, not Thorin & Co. (Definitely not taking on Smaug- I wouldn't want to steal Bard's thunder.)

Afraid I'm going to duck the ship issue for now, aside from pointing out the obvious that Aragorn/Buffy isn't on the cards since Buffy has already made her choice and can't renounce the Twilight as Aragorn asked of Arwen.

Review:
I don't give a flying fig newton what anyone else thinks, I loved this chapter! I've always had a huge weakness for Tolkien's poetry (okay, except that nonsense in The Hobbit, but that in The Silmarillion and The Lays of Beleriand are heartbreakingly beautiful) and Howard Shore's scores were pretty much the best thing about the movies (well, along with the scenery in New Zealand). The Song to Elbereth from the complete soundtrack of "The Fellowship of the Ring" gives me chills every time I think of it and I can only imagine that being sung by all of the Galadhrim.

Also, it is so lovely to see Haldir as he truly is. Thank you!

Thank you! I'm relived that no one seems to be complaining- I was a little nervous at putting so much poetry in, but how else would elves express joy?

Hmmm, some of the truth has hit home. I'm really hoping for Numenorean lifespans here... No doubt Buffy will be deeply involved in fighting the Shadow. Wonder if its the ring or her heritage that makes Galadriel so powerful here. Nice family reunion scene.

Thanks for writing
Comments from author:
Thanks for reviewing. (It's both the ring and her heritage that make Galadriel powerful.)

Review of chapter "Celeborn" from (Current Donor)Sulien
Review:
Of all the characters Tolkien never truly elaborated upon, Celeborn is the one I want to know more about and the way you have him portrayed here just seems right to me, wishful thinking or not. Thanks for this! *g*

Edited to add: As much as I love Craig Parker and his portrayal of Haldir, I'd like to put a boot up Peter Jackson's backside for making everyone think that Haldir is such an arrogant ass. *sigh* After all, Haldir is the one who took Frodo to see Cerin Amroth and he was quite friendly with the Fellowship after the runners came from Caras Galadhon to tell them they had Galadriel's permission to walk freely. *coughs* Pardon... *puts the muzzle back on the Canon Maven* All the above said, I named one of my cats Haldir because he has the air of the movie Haldir and the sweetness of book Haldir. *sheepish grin*
Comments from author:
Thanks!

I'm quite fond of Haldir in both book and movie, though I agree what was more caution and keeping galadhrim law in the book turned into arrogance and distrust in the movie. (Though imho the treatment of Haldir wasn't nearly as bad as what was done to Elrond's character.) I was aiming for something in between. I need to re-read, since I haven't yet this year, but I always got the impression Haldir very much thought that Lothlorien was the best place in Middle Earth, and that can come off as snobbish to someone who doesn't know him that well.

Review:
She managed to have ice cream. Uh oh Dawn will be so jealous and glad that Buffy managed their grandma to make ice cream.

Well even when the others still call her Buffy I think Anariel suits her. Wonder if Dawn still think her name is the prettiest after hearing the thought behind it.

some interactions with Haldir perhaps maybe Anariel can move that stick from his ass.
Comments from author:
Of course she got ice cream! Galadriel may be too sensible to spoil her rotten, but she's certainly going to be making up for lost time with her granddaughter. (Plus, ice cream. The elves enjoy making things, and enjoy feasting- ice cream fits nicely into both categories...)

So far, Celeborn's the only one Buffy will allow to call her Anariel, but give it a few hundred years and she'll probably be answering to it regularly. ;)

Little does she know she's narrowly avoided having the Council arrive and put her through the blind folded fighting test stuff. Left for Middle Earth just in time.
I wonder how Buffy will handle having Xander etc grow old and die while she goes on and on. Not going to be easy.
Comments from author:
She's going to have to learn to think like the Eldar do about the Edain- and no, it won't be easy.

Buffy with a grandparent is a wonderful time. More moments like this are what make life worth living for a Slayer. She really needs to get even with the twins.
Comments from author:
Don't worry about her getting even with the twins, soon enough the student shall surpass her would-be masters.

Manipulative older sisters... Though if anyone can breach the barriers between the human and Eldar afterlives, it would be Dawn/Tindomiel.

I liked the way Galadriel welcomed Buffy. Very nice.

Thanks for writing, Vid
Comments from author:
Thank you.
She may be manipulative, but like all good big sisters, Arwen's also quite protective...

Review:
Dawn/Estel makes a lot more sense than Arwen/Estel. Talk about cougar town.
Digression: Yes, Xander hated and hates Angel. But that's not the main reason for his lie. If Buffy had hung back in the fight waiting for Willow's spell to kick in, the world would have ended. She had to give it 100%. So he didn't tell her the news that would have given her reason to hold back. He had other reasons along with it (hated Angel etc) but I don't think that was 'it'. I recall an interview where Joss stated this, in fact. /end digression.
Arwen has finally figured Tindomiel out and is now able to manipulate her easily. Not surprising given the age difference. Though Arwen isn't able to see how Dawn/Estel will eventually get along. Oops!
I mean, why not wear pants on the journey then break out the skirts for meeting family? etc.
At least Dawn is good at picking up languages...
Comments from author:
I'm of your view on Xander's lie. Been trying to write something about the twins talking to Buffy about it, but it's not ready to post yet.

Dawn will probably ride in pants under normal circumstances, but Arwen's right- if she's going to wear dresses and skirts, she ought to be prepared to ride or fight in them should she need to, because you don't always get advance notice of a situation. (Women used to ride in skirts regularly, so clearly once you learn how to do it properly, it's not a big deal.)

It seems that eventually it will be Aragorn/Dawn and not Aragorn/Arwen...

I've actually not made up my mind yet, but Estel is definitely intrigued by Elrond's youngest daughter.

It's been so annoying to not have my computer to respond to all the wonderful chapters you've posted lately, but I have it back now and so I can reply again. Now if I could only remember what all I wanted to say about the earlier chapters! =]

I had to laugh with this latest; although I have never ridden a horse while wearing a skirt, I have done a lot of other things (including riding a bike and going bowling) and many people would be quite surprised what one CAN comfortably do in a skirt, especially if it is somewhat full and long enough for modesty. =D Great chapter!
Comments from author:
Thanks!
(I'm always a bit puzzled by people who think skirts mean you can't comfortably do things. If they were so uncomfortable/awkward, bifurcated clothes would have been more consistently preferred throughout history. Instead, both sexes wear some version of skirts at many times/places, including some rather manly types like the Romans and the Scots.)
