Review of chapter "Daughters of Elrond" from bradsan
Review:
well Buffy didn't refused dead but she didn't welcome it either. if I'm correct.
She is "forced" back to life. Not unwanted but the choice was made for her.
On the other hand if she didn't had a strong will to live she would have stayed dead no matter what Xander did. That's how I see it. Both ways she made her choice to stay alive. So Immortal it is.

Like sneaky Haldir and like the bonding between the sisters.

Thanks!

Regarding Buffy's choice, as I saw it, if Buffy had wanted to accept the Gift of Men, Xander would not have been able to revive her. Since she didn't want to die, he was able to do so.

I'm not sure if I'd call the Master incident refusing the gift...

I loved reading this story! Its one of the few that brings Buffy and the rest into Arda in a way that isn't traumatic, she isn't recovering from PTSD or some other dying trauma, and to me at least it works. I'd like to read more whenever you get to it, in fact I'd read the whole story without stop if it was available already.

Thanks for sharing it. I hope you new year will be prosperous. Take care x

Dawn raised some good points about the Key/mortality. Won't help her much if she does fall in love, though. Maybe she could learn ring lore and pour all the Key energy into one? That'd be weird.
Comments from author:
Dawn making a ring? While Sauron's still on the loose? Yikes!

Decided to sit down late this evening and reread this story and I'm glad I did, because it reminded me of exactly how much I truly enjoy it. Thank you for finding such an intriguing and unique way to bring Buffy, Joyce, Dawn and the Scoobies so seamlessly and logically into Arda and doing it beautifully as well.

This story is continuing to be very enjoyable. Each little snippet is just a delight to read. Loved the interaction with Celeborn, and really liked the idea that it was Haldir who got Buffy to sing. I also thought the whole idea of her 'choice' already being (unintentionally) made was completely unique. Please keep up the great work.

Just catching up - and finding myself wondering if Arwen is now meeting the young Estel, whether she is less likely to fall for the older version... and where that might leave Tindomiel...

Also - I really like the way you write Galadriel and Celeborn - they feel just right to me.
Comments from author:
Thank you! I'm always nervous about writing them, so it means a lot to hear that they feel right.

I don't think anything Arwen sees of young Estel will influence her falling for the older version- she's not very involved with him on a day to day basis, she just knows he's around. (She fell for him despite an age difference of over two thousand years, so I don't see how meeting him a few years sooner makes much difference.) Tindomiel is going to treat Estel like the annoying kid brother he is whenever they're both in the same place...

I wonder what Galadriel makes of Anya. Talk about 'reformed demon'. That's kind of rare. and 1,100 years old, too. I've always thought they should have done more with A. --must have huge store of knowledge about magic / demons etc.
Huh. If they hear about the "Ring of Amara" that Spike had briefly, would they compare it to the great rings made long ago in 2nd age...
Nice to see Buffy is adapting and accepting, also Dawn. But yeah, it's going to be sad, them watching Xander & company die of old age "so quickly". Though I wonder a bit about Willow, maybe being at istari level would keep her going?
Comments from author:
I'm pondering writing a bit about the Scoobies in Lothlorien, I feel like I dropped them in favor of focusing on Buffy's interactions.

As far as Willow and mortality, she may be a powerful witch, but she's still mortal. In Tolkien canon, mortals who try to cheat death or extend their life beyond their normal span tend to have bad ends. (The Fall of Numenor and the Witch King of Angmar come to mind. Actually, all the Nazgul.)

Brilliant. I'm not normally a great fan of LOTR x-overs particularly those that involve, Harry P, Buffy, the Pevensies etc joining the Fellowship as it doesn't add anything to either LOTR or the others. This however works superbly not least in giving us a different perspective on all of the main characters, congratulations & well done.
One minor question, this story obviously takes place just before the Hobbit, will Buffy etc meet the company when they arrive @ Rivendell & possibly join them. The thought of Buffy taking on Smaug or at the Battle of the Five armies is mouth watering. One ships my vote is for Aragorn/Arwen, they just fit, Dawn is the annoying sister for Aragorn as well as Arwen & Buffy.
Comments from author:
Thank you.
Buffy may meet the company in Rivendell, but she's certainly not going with them. She may end up at the Battle of the Five Armies, but if she does she will be with the Elves, not Thorin & Co. (Definitely not taking on Smaug- I wouldn't want to steal Bard's thunder.)

Afraid I'm going to duck the ship issue for now, aside from pointing out the obvious that Aragorn/Buffy isn't on the cards since Buffy has already made her choice and can't renounce the Twilight as Aragorn asked of Arwen.

Review:
I don't give a flying fig newton what anyone else thinks, I loved this chapter! I've always had a huge weakness for Tolkien's poetry (okay, except that nonsense in The Hobbit, but that in The Silmarillion and The Lays of Beleriand are heartbreakingly beautiful) and Howard Shore's scores were pretty much the best thing about the movies (well, along with the scenery in New Zealand). The Song to Elbereth from the complete soundtrack of "The Fellowship of the Ring" gives me chills every time I think of it and I can only imagine that being sung by all of the Galadhrim.

Also, it is so lovely to see Haldir as he truly is. Thank you!

*settles in to wait for more, whenever you're ready*

Thank you! I'm relived that no one seems to be complaining- I was a little nervous at putting so much poetry in, but how else would elves express joy?
