Review of chapter "New York by Gehry" from Meneldur
I'm pretty sure I mentioned, this, but nice work. Mostly harmless (except Tony, but he totally deserved it), and very funny, with some amusing references. Of course, there are also lots of little details to be expanded on... Doreen, why the Bifrost is 'no more', Mockingbird, Black Widow doing Zumba... but this is why this is such a good oneshot, because it teases us with much more to come.
Comments from author:
Doreen: Because squirrels rock.
Bifröst: Events of the Thor movie.
Mockingbird: Coming in When Kate Met Buffy.
Black Widow: It's dance aerobics. Awesome way to stay fit.

Great little piece. Keep up the good work.

Need to get my English translated to Thorglish for another scene, then I'll have something else to post...

Nice. I do admire the way you control a chapter's end. And, yeah, Tony deserved it. :)
Comments from author:
Well, I don't like a chapter end that leaves you feeling "...where's the rest?" A nice hard cut-off is the way to go, whether it's a solid "that's it" or a cliffhanger to bring them back for next time.

I don't know why, and I don't quite know what it says about me, but it is surprisingly easy for me to visualise squirrels doing Zumba.

I like these side stories, they provide a nice break in the main storyline while giving a fun hint at things to possibly come.

Also, random, I've been studying Norwegian recently and I've noticed a number of similarities to German (though the languages are related, I hadn't expected as many as I've noticed). Before reading the story and gaining context, I was wondering if I was translating that title right in my head and wrong in applying German rules to Norwegian. To see what I mean, the surprisingly similar equivalent in German is, "Tanzende Eichhörnchens und andere Dummheiten". (Languages fascinate me to no end.)
Comments from author:
My mom and sister both speak German so yeah, I had a rough idea before I asked a Norwegian friend for an exact translation.

These aren't 'possibly' to come, FYI. While I regard them as being alpha or beta-level quality (unfinished product), unless someone points out a horribly huge mistake in one of the scenes, it will be incorporated as-is straight into Blue Belle at some point in the future. That's why I'm time-stamping it all; you can compare the dates of each scene from the side stories to see where they match up with each other, and where they go compared to the current forward progress of Blue Belle itself.

Oooh... worst part about that knee is the dent is gonna STAY there a while... poor Tony. >.
Comments from author:
All of a sudden, I'm picturing that scene in Iron Man 1 where the arms are trying to pull the armor pieces off him...

PURE WIN!!! Squirrel Girl as a Zumba instructor was priceless. I also liked Thrud's "Snakes on a Plane" reference and the god's knee that she gave to Stark. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next.
Comments from author:
I felt bad for my helpers because I had to carefully highlight text to be translated. It wasn't just "everything Thrúd says" because there was Tony's BS, and Thrúd speaks modern English at points. They did a kick ass job, though. Very proud.

Not familiar enough with the cast here, but is the class being led by Squirrel Girl?

later edit - have to admit that the Thrud I'm familiar with is rather different
Comments from author:
The class is indeed being led by Doreen Green. She'll likely recur in the New York City bits (SHIELD, Spider-Clan, et cetera). As for the rest of the cast, yeah, they are a bit unfamiliar but that's why I'm going out of my way to introduce them before Thrúd starts popping up with SHIELD's people. Thrúd is actually Thor's daughter in mythology as well as being a valkyrie; her history and origins were created by me to fit this story. Eir, Göndul, Kára, and the other valkyries are likewise drawn from both Poetic and Prose Edda.

EDIT: I think you got the recommender email present in the past. If not... part of it is visible on my Tumblr for anyone who clicked through the ChipIn and read the info page:

Squirrel Girl is one of my favorite characters, if only because she is the epitome of the 'Lethal Joke Character' of TV Tropes.
Comments from author:
Yeah, that part of the scene is actually mixing two real world people I met at ConnectiCon: there was a Deadpool giving Zumba lessons at the con, and a Squirrel Girl among his students. I couldn't get Deadpool's voice right to save my life, so I merged the two and made Doreen the teacher.
