Review of chapter "Chapter 25 - The Promise" from RevDorothyL
Review:
Loved the 'promise fulfilled', telling-the-story aspect of this, and particularly the revelation that Merlin had apparently been spreading the story and asking that it be passed down through the generations until the right time for centuries.

Nice slice of the ending of "Camelot" (the movie version of the musical -- "ask every person if he's heard the story, and tell it strong and clear if he has not, that once there was a fleeting wisp of glory...") combined with the finale of the new "Dr. Who" season 4 (Martha spending the year-that-never-was walking the earth and telling the story of the Doctor, so that at one crucial moment all the people who'd heard the tale would be ready to put their whole being into wishing the Doctor back into strength and well-being), with appropriate SG1 overtones and inimitable Merlin style.

:)

[update: see http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061439/?ref_=sr_2 or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camelot_(film) for basic info on the 1967 film version of Lerner & Loewe's musical "Camelot", which has long been one of my favorite movie musicals, in spite of the vocal limitations of Vanessa Redgrave in yet ANOTHER role originated on Broadway by Julie Andrews and assigned to a non-singing actress for the film version. :) ]
Comments from author:
Ah, you got me on the Doctor Who aspect. I'll confess, which I hadn't necessarily had Martha and the season 4 finale in mind when I first wrote the Christmas Special, making it world and time-wide was slightly inspired by it. Haven't seen Camelot the musical yet though. Actually, I didn't even realize there was a movie version, so maybe I'll have to go look that up now.

Glad you liked it! Thanks for reviewing! =D

Review:
I know this is nitpicky in a sense so I don't mean it as a major criticism of the fic, but the whole twenty year war thing is a little hard to swallow when everyone major has nuclear weapons and one side also has Goa'uld, Ancient and Asgard technology. It's pretty hard to see such a war lasting twenty years on just one planet and there still being more than a handful of survivors.
Comments from author:
Eh, it's not entirely nictpicky... I'll admit it did cross my mind that perhaps some more explanation was needed... and, to be fair I am only showing small pockets of the world, so you really have no idea what everything in-between looks like. Or how much alien technology had been distributed as 'peace offereings' to countries outside the US... We have had world wars before on this planet and there were more than a handful of survirors from them and, yes, the technology and weapons then weren't nearly as advanced or destructive, but there is always the possibility that atomic missiles never got used (or that somehow, someone at the SGC had figured out a way to neutralize the radiation).

You've no doubt noticed I'm being ridiculously vague about the war and its intensity. Just because an official peace treaty hadn't been signed in that 20 years, doesn't mean the fighting was on-going. You're right though, I'm probably being way more optimistic than I should be about this war, but stranger things have happened. Hopefully it doesn't ruin the rest of the story for you.

Review:
This was much better than the Merlin series ending. Far superior.
Comments from author:
Lol, thanks! I'm kinda working towards Merlin and Arthur actually fulfilling their destiny not just being told they have. Although, since I began this story before season 5 started, there are actually references to them having done so even in that time of magic...

If you had ended it here, I wouldn't have been mad at you. Still, I'm glad there's more to come.
Comments from author:
Yeah... it's would've made a good ending, but I had sort of always wanted to continue with what's to come next week (in many ways, that's going to be a real story). Hopefully it doesn't disappoint!

Never get involved in a land-war in Asia, and never try to out-prank an immortal wizard.

To your AN: To be fair, this has been a pretty cold winter for Canada. I grew up in the fricken Arctic, am now in the prairies, and I'm still freezing my arse off!
Comments from author:
LOL!!! Words to live by. =D

Ah, see we've actually been having a fairly mild winter here in southern Ontario - the temp rose up to about +10 a couple weeks ago - it's just that now we're spoilled and so the cold seems really cold. :(

Review:
*blink* Wow. The scene in the gate room with Daniel is just, just awesome. And I'm so glad Daniel was there. Though I am a bit sad to see merlin leave the SGC because I've been having so much fun visualizing him spreading chaos & humor of a different kind. I'm really really interested to find out whats happening next.
Comments from author:
Glad you liked that scene. It took a bit of debating with myself before I decided to have Daniel there, 'cause the idea of them just showing up one morning to find a sword embedded into the floor sounded fun too. Eh, anything Merlin could just do with magic would be too easy, lol. Next chapter should be up next week! Thanks for reviewing.
