Review of chapter "Chapter 7" from AnFan
Review:
I was wondering if you were going to go with the Slayer Dreams. You might want her thinking on that though. If she uses it too much, she will become the focus of anyone who wants to shut down future knowledge. If she comes up with an Oracle of some kind, it might muddy the water somewhat. Though, it's difficulty is that with no one else knowing the Oracle (other than possibly DD pipping up) they might not trust it as much.

Didn't mention it before, but it fits this review. I was afraid at first that you would have trouble fitting a "Future" person into the past. That some of the Higher Beings would see this and either nix it or counter it at every time she tried to change the future. After some thought, I realized that the Buffyverse is replete with people who have future knowledge. Faith could last for a very long time on the down low. She isn't supposed to die for a long time, so no one will look to her as being more special than that (which is pretty special in the Buffyverse). And unless someone takes the time to examine her path from Boston closely they probably won't even realize who put the fly in their ointment. This could be a very good side plot that you can paint light on every once in a while to let readers know that is why the Higher Powers aren't interfering. This being that there is a side plot. All you have to do is show someone trying to find the "Rogue" or unknown Oracle that wasn't taken into account for whoever's plans (like WRH). I would imagine that the two Oracles in LA will be unhappy with Faith's work somewhat also. Might cause them to argue even more back and forth between each other :)

Now, I think you said that it was the PTB that sent her back. I hope you don't think you have to be locked into that. Or that the PTB were even the entire group and not one specific or even one that isn't shown in cannon. After all, even they probably have superiors that don't know what they are doing in detail (probably don't care on the details either being that far removed from the Earth plane).

Love the chapter. Thank you very much for the update and I think I'm going to give you a rec even though you haven't really "reached" me with this story yet, just because it has so much potential and I know that I have liked other stories you've written.

Have a happy new year.
Comments from author:
Yes, eventually, WRH will come looking for the 'Oracle' that is messing up their plans. But not for a good, long while.

Not quite. The PTB sending her back was the challenge, but it was actually a vengeance demon. I don't know if I'll ever say why in the story, but it was because the scoobies killed a number of them over the years. And the VDs are using this second chance to avoid the scoobs at all costs. They don't care if things turn out better or worse for the scoobs as long as they (the VDs) stay far away from them this time.

Thank you for the Rec. Hopefully I "reach" you soon.

Review:
Jonathan was one of those characters (to me) who should have turned out ok, but he kept making bad choices. Little speech giving B the 'class protector' award was his high point. Nice to see Faith helping. But she's not "Saint Faith" (as B wasn't "Saint Buffy" ). heh.
"Slayer dream" is a great way for Faith to dispense info at critical points. Nice advance setup for Glory; too bad she doesn't know enough about Jasmine.
I note that Faith is still avoiding doing anything about the mayor. Understandable. That's going to be really awkward for her.
Comments from author:
Faith isn't aware of the '100 days'. She thinks he was always invulnerable - because he always was as long as she knew him.

Review:
Nice update, tho the chapter feels unfinished- what with leaving the whole Post issue unresolved. how they end up beating her and how the WC responds to what happens will have implications on Buffy's feeling towards the WC. I'm truly curious about whether or not you're going to take away at least some of the canon idiot/incompetence ball the WC had throughout the show. One could argue that they're a bit corrupt, amoral and, at least the top of the WC are oligarchs, but they are none the less mission driven and there's no harm in making them at least a little more three dimensional than canon, which imo, didn't have the money/time to develop them a bit more.

I also think that the killing of Pete should have been a huge deal- because despite having taken steroids to the next level, was still human, and Buffy was right there. It should also start affecting how Buffy begins to see the evil in humans. The order of Teraka, if you put that into play somehow, with the assassin police woman, along with post, combined with Faith's 'good' demons, will really start to shade in Buffy's world view. That, and Scott, despite seeming nice, was also rather shallow, so i'd love to see a Parker mk 1- this is Buffy in HS, so perhaps a bj that gets blabbed about rather than than the full scale shit the goes down next year :)

In any case, great job and I look forward to seeing where things go.

btw- Faith is around, all this talk about magical weapons- hint for a search for the mystical Slayer Scyth in two years or so when Glory comes a knock'n.

That, and faith could certainly influence Willow into looking more at girls, setting her up for her true love-Tara. She had a real connection with Oz, and it could be argued that she's Bi, but, i've always seen her as gay and her dating Oz was cluelessness, hormones and denial (she met her vamp alt self, which, given that they do carry some original personality, minus morals, gave some clue).

In any case, I look forward to seeing where you take this, and when we start to see more butterflies and divergences from canon.
Comments from author:
I realize that Lagos and Post were in the same episode and after the same object, but I always considered them as two separate issues. Lagos is resolved, they'll resolve Post next.

The WC in this story is a lot less powerful than typical fanon. Hampered by bureaucracy and in-fighting. We'll see more of them later.

You caught it. Pete's death was originally a bigger deal. I had a big speech from Faith convincing B that killing Pete was the right thing to do. But it just felt not only OOC but Mary Sueish too. So it was cut. But that's a good idea with Scott being a bit of a dick. Not sure if I can work that in as I'm pretty far ahead in my writing right now. But we'll see.

Faith is planning on finding the Scythe sooner than that.

Unfortunately for Tara, no one really told Faith much about her other than they met in college and that Warren killed her. Also, Faith knows that Willow had crushes on Xander and Giles before she ever met Oz, much less that Tara chick. So she figures Willow is 3/4 straight & 1/4 lesbian. (The rest of the women she dated were clearly so that she wouldn't "betray" Tara's memory by going back to guys) {This is Faith's opinion}

Thank you for reviewing.

Review:
The thing that stuck out for me in this chapter was that Buffy trusts Faith implicitly. I bet that means a lot to Faith this time around. I think Buffy might change her mind if she ever finds out Angel is back and Faith didn't tell her. And Slayer dreams are handy ways to disguise that you know the future nut I wonder how long it will take for Buffy to wonder why Faith gets so many more dreams than she does?
I like that you mentioned Jonathan too, sometimes the little things can have a big impact later.
Comments from author:
Hmm... I had to think about that. And Buffy's trust... no, I don't really think it means that much to her. She expects it. She's known B for a very long time. It might mean more if Buffy *didn't* trust her.

Buffy will notice, but won't really ask. She never asked Angel where he got his information from after all.

Review:
Ye-ah. Deamon mercenary not really the thing to reason with. I liked that Faith interacted with Jonathan in a way that might prevent him from doing the clock tower thing (unless this is after that??). Regardless someone was nice to him, and since she was good looking and complementary around their peers other girls thought they'd give him a try. So that's nice. And even before the trend of "hot jewish nerdy actors" = jewnicorn -- (yes that's teen speak) although Jonathan was just average looking he had the nerd factor and potential sweetness going for him (sorry Danny if you read this stuff for being so objective about your look).
Comments from author:
After watching that episode way too many times, I'm convinced that Lagos was at the very least, not their enemy.

Yes, Earshot will not happen. For many reasons. Not the least of which is the fact that animals have many ways to communicate without sound from mouths... but no way of eating without mouths. Makes no sense.

This kind of story throws me sometimes; I don't always like them because they often give much away early on. Now, while you have not completely escaped that, you are hiding it from you keep it from getting to the other Scoobies, quite well actually. You've done far better than I expected, and I am really looking forward to seeing what you come up with next.
Comments from author:
I wanted to avoid that trap too. But Faith just wasn't willing to let things be and deviated too much from what Young!Faith would have done. But she was also able to mitigate the damage for now. Not forever, though.

Review:
Faith with military training? That is something else I thought I would never see! She seems to have Private Harris's number though! I'm glad to see that Angel will recover even without Buffy around. Hopefully he won't be so fixated on her if he isn't smelling her so often. I'm sure Faith will let him down gently (ok, maybe not gently) if he tries to switch his affections to her. That notebook sounds like a dangerous idea though. I hope no-one ever gets hold of it!
Comments from author:
Yes, Faith will not be letting him down gently. I have some possible plans for that notebook. We'll see.

Review:
I dunno--Xander taking care of those zombies himself was a huge step towards maturity for him. Then again no need to do it in a single night, maturing naturally is probably less stressful. Angel... Faith is forgetting something or rather, wasn't around for it, didn't get told maybe. "Amends" --the First Evil. Will appear to drive him nuts. And the whole "snowed instead of him burning" was a huge Sign that maybe he was supposed to be back. Or something like that.
Still, on the whole, Faith is doing an excellent job. Being an adult mentally/emotionally makes a huge difference, doesn't it? All the things that seemed such huge problems at age 16-17 seem solvable to her now, and all that.
Lorne--good idea.
Comments from author:
The First was after him because he could defeat her/it. But yes, Faith doesn't know the details of that. It's going to 'cost' her a little, but... well, you'll see.

Loving the series so far but if i remember correctly Xander was good with a bow and arrow.
Comments from author:
It's possible you're remembering my Emerald Dawn story. Or simply thinking of much later in the series. As of Season 3, he wasn't a particularly skilled fighter yet.
