Review of chapter "Chapter Seven" from lorwen
good story...
I hope there's more...
Comments from author:
I do, too. My muse hasn't shown a great deal of interest in completing this one, but I still have my hopes.

I know what I need to do to finish it up - now it's just a matter of getting it written.

Review of chapter "Chapter Seven" from rocky
it's been three years and this most outstanding story hasn't had any posts, i really enjoyed the plot line but is it abandoned or is it alive... i hope it's alive, i like it.
Comments from author:
All I can say right now is that it's definitely not abandoned.

I've got the next chapter half-written, but my muse seems to have forgotten about completing it, so I'm not sure when it will be updated. ;-(

Anyway, thanks for reviewing and asking about it.

Review of chapter "Chapter Seven" from daveykins
Very dark.. very good :)
Comments from author:
Yes, it is, because the story it's based on was quite dark.

Hopefully, I'll get more done on this sometime soon.

And thanks.

Review of chapter "Chapter Four" from Vassago
I just wanted to point out that Buffy explained the same thing four times, in a row and that were different only in minor ways, to Giles about Willow. Did you go back and edit that explanation for some reason but forgot to remove the other ones?
Comments from author:
Actually, I felt that that was a fairly reasonable depiction of how Buffy would address that issue with Giles, since she tended to hammer things home repeatedly with very little subtlety when she was arguing what she thought should be done.

Review of chapter "Chapter Seven" from (Past Donor)Keldin
Yet another good story that I'm hoping to 'bump' back into consideration for more writing. :)
Comments from author:
Thanks for reviewing.

And with my muse looking over some of my older stuff, this has a fairly good chance of seeing a new chapter show up.

Review of chapter "Chapter Seven" from rocky
Have just re-read this fic, would love another chapter, even a short one. The inter personal Drama is good, idea just to make things interesting and level Xander out a bit would be to suddenly have a spell go wrong and Dawn memories or thoughts get sent to the key, just an idea...
Comments from author:
Thanks for reviewing and commenting. I've got a little bit written for the next chapter, but my muse seems more interested in the various plot bunnies that have been running rampant through my mind lately.

Hopefully, Ill be able to get that completed in the near future.

Review of chapter "Chapter Seven" from Satori
I find it so terribly sad that an author of your undeniable skill- (Your scene with Joyce talking about how she was glad that it was Xander and not Buffy who was all PTSD'ed was inspired) - insists on writing Xander-spew, er -sue.

Everything revolves around Xander, it's all about his pain over those slayers dying, and the complete lack of contact between him and the other Scoobies is of course, all their fault.. it's not like he could have tried to contact them or anything? No, they are to blame for not contacting him. because the world revolves around him and everyone must be terrible sorry for how badly they treated him..... Sheeesh.

I know the complex, because I used to have it- the "look at me and how much i suffered because of you, mwahaha that's my moral superiority" complex -and I've realized it's crock. Suffering is not inherently noble, guilt-blackmailing others is just ugly and pathetic, and the attitude that "they hurt me, so they have to come and apologize, and to hell with them until they do" is childish. That other people treated you badly does not make you a saint, you're still an asshole if that's the way you acting now, no matter how undeserved their prior mistreatment of you was. Xander deserves better than to be made into that kind of character. He never though much of Angels broody, guilt and pain act, and you have him doing it.

What made Xander so interesting was his everyman quality. Wanking him out with a ridiculous assortment of guns and "key powers" just kills his character. Frankly, the guy you're writing bears no real resemblance to Xander Harris from the TV show. he might as well be a random guy named Bob, with his macho, super-intense, broody non-personality. Cannon Xander would sooner shoot himself than start imitating the dress sense and broodiness of Angel and Spike of all people.

As a astute commentator on and writer of Xander-fic once said "as soon as Xander is described as wearing a black duster/trench-coat and reaching for his gun- not even just gun, but the exact make and specs- I stop reading the fic, because I know it's just going to be Xander-Sue from then on."

Me, I want my Xander-Shaped Friend. Not a John Kelly Clone who dresses like Neo and smirks 40 times a chapter. But hey, it's your fic, do as you like.

EDIT: I have never advocated a "touchy feely Xander" My favorite fic's include "Water Hold Me Down" and "Whisper".. You don't get much darker than that. But there is a huge gap between "Xander the doormat" and "guy who thinks he's Neo". The latter is a Mary sue. having a more dark and violent Xander is cool with me.... but having him emulate Vampboy dress sense strains credibility, especially when placed in conjunction with a gun fetish.
Comments from author:
First off, thanks for the compliment about my skill at writing.

As far as the Xander-Sue aspect goes, you need to keep in mind that this is an authorized follow-up to someone else's story, and that everything I've written with respect to Xander's abilities has been approved and vetted by the original author.

And I also must admit the scene you admire so much was a result of an email conversation with another author (eckles71 - much of his work is posted on the XanderZone).

As far as Xander's attitude towards the girls goes, I think you're being extremely condescending about his feelings. All he did was tell them that he had no interest in resuming their previous relationships. At no time did he threaten them; he merely told them (in the first story) that they didn't know anything about him, and that he didn't want to associate with them in any manner.

Remember that Buffy beat him so severely that he was in ICU for an extended period of time, and the doctors were initially worrying about permanent impairments of his sight and hearing. His alleged 'best friend since childhood' stood by and merely watched him being beaten and did nothing to try to stop the assault, and the girl he had dated and whose life he had saved several times did the same, so I think he's more than a bit justified in being pissed off at them.

Why would he want to contact them and have them as any part of his life at all? Can they just walk up and say, 'Hey, Xand, sorry you almost got beaten to death because Buffy was PMS-ing and I stood by and watched. Want to go get a coffee and hang out?' and he should pretend that he didn't almost die as a result of their actions and/or indifference?

And as far as your accusations that he's hanging around and brooding, it simply isn't true. All he's done is ignore their current overtures to try and resume their former relationships (and note that, apparently, none of them have included any attempts to apologise for their actions).

Something to keep i mind is that Buffy's main concern with Xander's non-response (up until she had her talk with Giles) was that it was upsetting Willow; she didn't indicate any recognition at all that her previous actions were wrong in any manner, or that she had done him any sort of injustice.

And your accusation that, because I'm not portraying Xander as all touchy-feely and forgiving, I'm substituting an OC, you need to remember that Xander was shown on several occasions as being quite dark and unforgiving. When Amy's mother cast the spell on Buffy and Xander noted that the only way to end it was for the witch to die, he immediately headed towards the weapons cabinet and grabbed an axe. When Willow was kidnapped at the beginning of Season Two during 'When She Was Bad,' he threatened to kill Buffy if Willow was hurt. He was continually advocating killing Angelus and most other vampires and most demons, too, throughout the entire series. None of that falls under the 'touchy-feely' label, and not allowing a character to change from what you consider his 'established behavior' is not adequate justification for claiming I'm portraying him as out of character. The way he considers Michelle to be almost a daughter is part of the character that was established for him, so I can argue that he is still the same person he was prior to receiving his 'Keyness.'

I also feel the need to point out that this story is far from finished (yes, I know it's been a while since I've updated, but I am working on getting the next chapter written up along with all the other stuff I'm working on) and I have justifications (based on canon) for pretty much all of the actions everyone has taken up to this point, so all I can say is that there is more to be revealed and nothing that's been seen so far is set in stone.

Review of chapter "Chapter Seven" from rocky
Really good stories both one and two, i am really interested in seeing were you go with this. the xander that har is discribing sort of reminds me of the xander whiteknight from the hospital.
Comments from author:
Thanks for reviewing and commenting. The Xander you're seeing is the end result of seven long, hard and emotionally debilitating years of continuous fighting as the pretty much the primary defender of the Hellmouth. As Joyce pointed out in her conversation with Buffy, it is what *she* might have ended up as, if Buffy hadn't taken the break that she was offered by the Council.

Review of chapter "Chapter Seven" from CPTSkip
Lord love a duck, but Andrew is as annoying in this time-line as he is in the canon TL. Lol! I wonder if Super Warren could shrug off an anti-tank rocket? Or poison gas? How about a flame thrower? Just wondering. Great update, by the way. I liked the way the Scooby Team B works together. I look forward to more of your lovely story.
Comments from author:
Thanks for reviewing. We'll be learning more about the bad guys in upcoming chapters. Glad you liked the way Scooby Team B (as you termed them) reacted. More as soon as my muse deigns to cooperate. ;-)

A nastier (bit very familiar) trio, great work! action rocked and I can't wait for the rematch, as for the angel gang the angel/xander conversation should be interesting :)
Comments from author:
I think you'll enjoy the rematch a *great* deal. And the Angel/Xander... discussion.. will most certainly be interesting. ;-)
