So who the heck is this Myra chick?
“Alice? Jasper? I thought you guys were gone for good!” Bella ran up to Alice and wrapped her arms around her so tightly that Buffy was sure that if she needed to breathe, she would have been in serious trouble. Meanwhile, she was starting to lose the feeling in her fingers from lack of blood flow.
“Can I help you?” she asked the distraught vampire. Just the fact that she was feeling his emotional trauma was enough to make her ask. The fact that he was damaged was obvious.
His fingers contracted and she could feel him slowly begin to uncurl them from around her arms.
“Alice saw someone … you. I thought you might be someone that I knew from my previous life. I’m sorry to have scared you.” He bent his head forward in a kind of bow and slowly, in a nonthreatening manner, backed away from her.
“That’s why you’re back,” Edward mused, seemed to think something over in his mind, glanced at Jasper and then Alice before looking back at Buffy.
“Were any of your family involved in the Civil War?”
She was taken aback. “I think so. Mom always said our people had been around so long we probably came over on the Mayflower. She did the genealogy a couple years before she passed. Is this really important?”
Edward looked from her to Jasper to Alice to Bella and back to her again.
And then pointedly looked back at Jasper.
Oh.
Oh!“Get out. No way!”
Bella did a little half squeal and was grinning like a drunken idiot. “You know what this means, Alice? It means we were always family, even before I married Edward. You were an in-law. I can’t believe this!”
Buffy crossed her arms and took in Jasper’s visage, trying to find pieces of herself or her mom in him. Nope. Nothing unless you count the blonde hair because she certainly didn’t get his height.
“So,” she said, “who the heck is this Myra chick?”
