Seeing

Wow, sorry for the complete lack of any life signs in forever and ever. I'll try not to disappear again for half a year.

I am, however, stating loud and clear for all to hear, that whatever is on here, usually gets to my lj faster. Or at least, it's the place where you find out about progress and where you can dump your ideas and concrit. So drop by, one day, will ya?

NCIS:

31, Seeing

Tony jerks violently as a female voice interrupts his daydream of a dead Kate in a catholic school uniform. Looking up he catches his breath at the sight before him.

She’s blonde, tiny and absolutely stunning. She’s also smirking at him.

“How can I help you?”

“By pointing me to Special Agent Gibbs.”

“He’s not here. Who are you?”

She uncrosses her arms, leaving them to hang loosely at her sides and her smile fades, “My name’s Buffy Summers. I was a friend of Kate.”

Tony feels his momentarily good mood evaporate like water in a desert as his smile falls.

“So you heard?”

She nods. She heard. She knows. And then she looks him straight in the eye and Tony sees, for just one instant the pain and grief she holds inside, in order to go on. He sees it because he works the same way and in that moment he understands her perfectly. Because she’s a soldier just like him.

He has no idea how she knew Kate or what brings her here, but he knows what she won’t do.

She won’t cry and she won’t break down and she won’t accuse. She won’t rant and rave and when she remembers, she’ll only remember the good things about Kate, like her smile and her slightly stand-offish behavior sometimes.

He knows because he can see that they’ve both lost loved ones before. It’s a quiet and bitter recognition that flits across both their faces.

“Why are you here?”

She bends forward, resting her hands on the edge of his desk and moves close enough to whisper in his ear.

“To kill her murderer.”

Tony allows himself a quick smirk.

A soldier.

Just like him.

“Welcome to the club.”
